"Pixel Perfect: Unveiling the Google Pixel 7a - A Game-Changer in the Smartphone Arena"

 

 

Friends, we've been talking about this phone for a long time. Yes, the Pixel 7a has finally launched in India! And today's review is going to be very interesting! Especially about the camera, there are some very interesting things.

Its price is Rs 44K. I'm telling you this now but this might not be the best time to buy it. If you buy it on Diwali, the price will be Rs 5-10K less. You can get it for Rs 35-37K.
And if you get it for Rs 35-37K, then this will be a great phone! In the box, there's a USB Type C to Type C charging cable and there's a USB Type A to Type C adapter too! There's a SIM card tool & a small Google documentation. That's about it, there's nothing else, and if you are thinking what about the charger brick well it's not there.

So let's talk about the phone. Well, it has a plastic back & the feel is exactly the same as last year's pixel 6a. I don't think there's any difference between 6a and 7a. You won't even know which one it is if the phone is turned off. The camera band has come up a little & it's greyish silver And last time it was completely black. That's the only thing, the rest is similar in design. It's compact & a good mid-range compact phone. You don't get compact phones these days. Now let's talk about the ports & buttons at the bottom. There's a speaker grill & a microphone. There's no small hole for the microphone& a USB Type C port. On the right, there's a volume rocker & a power on-off button. The frame is metal, which is not generally seen in mid-range phones. There's a noise-canceling microphone on the top & a sim card tray on the left. The sim card tray doesn't have a dual sim but it supports dual sim. You can use an eSIM & a single physical sim card. There's no 3.5mm jack & the weight is 193g. There's plastic at the back, which looks like glass which is a fingerprint magnet & all the smudges come off. It comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection at the front and is built well.

If we talk about display, It has a 6.1-inch OLED display. When the 6A was launched, it offered a 60Hz screen for Rs 40-45K which you generally get in 15k phones.
But now it's a 90Hz screen which is an improvement. Its brightness is decent, but it should be around 600-700 nits. The bezels are slightly above average. The chin is slightly dated & the bezels are exactly the same as the 6A. They're not small, I thought they'd be after a year. It's a square design.
 
It's powered by 2nd generation Tensor G2. It's built on Samsung's 5Nm chipset. It has 1 variant with 8GB RAM, 1.8GB storage, UFS 3.1, and LPDDR5 RAM type.
It has a 4385mAh battery with 18W charging & a Titan M2 chipset for security. It's a physical chipset. The 6A didn't have wireless charging but 7a has. But sadly it does not have the battery share feature which we have seen in 7 and 7pro.

Well, Pixel phones have 2 highlights.

1- Cameras, 2- Clean & Vanilla Android experience.

Samsung gives major updates for 4 years, but they're giving 3 years.
It comes with Android 13 while 14, 15, and 16 are out of the box. But you get 5 years of security updates. The UI doesn't have any bloatware. And when the new Android version comes, Pixel is one of the first phones to get it.
If you want to stay on the latest & greatest cutting edge,  Pixel is the choice. If we talk about Sensors, it has an in-display fingerprint sensor, face unlock & everything works well. 

For Connectivity, it has Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and all available 5G bands & all are globally certified. It's probably one of the phones with a maximum of 5ands. So whether you're in India or abroad, you can always use 5G.
It has dual 4G VoLTE and WiFi calling support. About Multimedia, it has a 90Hz screen & the colors don't differ if viewed from different angles. It looks smooth but the colors are good due to OLED.
The display is great. Stereo speakers are loud & the multimedia experience is above average. It comes in 4 color variants Coral, Snow, White & Charcoal. But the most outstanding color according to me is the Blue color or as Google calls it the Sea color.

Yes, and I know you're waiting for the camera. So if I compare it with the 6A, then there's a big bump. The primary sensor is Sony's 64MP. If I compare it with the 6A, then it has a 12.5MP sensor. If I compare it with the Pixel 7, then it has a 50MP sensor. In pixel 7, it's a Samsung sensor. and this one has a Sony IMX787 sensor. And the other one is the 13MP Ultra Wide. If I talk about the front camera, then the 6A had 8MP. And now 7A has a 13MP selfie sensor. In terms of camera & picture quality, it's a big jump from the 6A.In fact, the interesting thing that I talked about is, if I compare it with the Pixel 7. And If you click photos in normal conditions, then we check them side by side. And I think the 7A clicks better pictures. Yes, pixel 7 has a better low-light performance & the 7 is better in videography but it comes at a price. But this one has a camera that is really very close to the 7A. Even the secondary sensor clicks very nice ultra-wide pictures. It has 120 degrees FOV, so you can definitely click wide pictures & landscapes.

If I talk about the videography, then it's a big jump in comparison to the 6A. You can click 4K 30FPS videos in the front & 4K 60FPS videos in the back. So that's great! And in terms of app features, you know many new features have come in the last 1 year. You can click the magic eraser and if someone is standing behind you, you can literally erase that person as if there was no one there. You can unblur the photo. It also has 8X super zoom, so I won't call it lossless. But the photo that's lost after zooming, reduces a bit. And there's a feature called real tone, so if you don't want a lot of punch, & if you want neutral colors, then you can use that.    

Let's talk about some other features, it has IP67 certification.
So that's good, I've already told you about wireless charging. but there's no notification light and no FM radio. So this is the Pixel 7a. For Rs 44K, if I compare it with the Pixel 6a, then I'd say it's a good jump.

If I compare it with the Pixel 7, then there's not much difference between the two.
Because if you're spending on the camera & you want to take a lot of photos, then the 7a might be a great choice. Overall, I'm very happy.!
But remember, if you look at the competition, you get 120Hz for Rs 44K. You get more performance than this. The Antutu performance of this phone is around 7-7.5L which is slightly lower than the Snapdragon 870 which is 1-2 years old. And you get phones under Rs 30K with the Snapdragon 870. 

So if it's not performance, it's an all-around phone. You definitely have other options for performance. But if you want a Google phone, or a Pixel, then the Pixel 7a is a good start. But, please don't buy it right now because you'll get it for Rs 35-40K during the Diwali sale. And I think it's good to wait if you want to buy it.
